Are Foreign Engagements a Distraction from Domestic Woes?

Our over-engagement in foreign policies and wars is misdirecting resources and distracting both the government and public from focusing upon many critical and urgent domestic issues. There are more than enough problems at home that need our full and concerted attention to solve. Continue reading

The Right to Bear Arms – Did Founding Fathers Intend it for All?

Was the 2nd Amendment added to the Constitution by our founding fathers to make sure that the public could arm itself against a tyrannical government? Or did the founding fathers design the Constitution with the flexibility to accommodate change to avoid a tyrannical government? What is the most reasonable reason for incorporating the 2nd Amendment? Continue reading

What if We Didn’t Engage In Any Wars?

A scenario is presented of what the country would be like if we had not engaged in all wars since WWII. The cost of war in both dollars and lives and the disruptions and consequences to veterans and society have been huge. Have the costs of wars been justified? Or would life had been better for us had we stayed out of these wars? Continue reading

Confusing Political Ads – time for “California DISCLOSE Act” SB 52

AB 52, the California DISCLOSE Act, would fight back against unlimited hidden spending on campaigns by letting voters know who REALLY is paying for political ads — on the ads themselves. Continue reading

The Economic Power of the Middle Class

The top 1-2% would like the public to think that they are responsible for stimulating the economy and thus deserve tax relief so that they will have more to stimulate economic growth. It truth it is those who spend not those who are wealthy that stimulate the economy. The very rich spend only a small percentage of their wealth on goods and services. A Failing Democracy

The US Congress is inept and unable to function as a body that enacts laws. The polarization of the two parties results in nothing being accomplished. Congregational leaders are driven by ideology instead of compromise. Our country is fighting wars abroad and trying to spread democracy yet democracy at home is a dismal and embarrassing failure. Those who we are trying to become democratic must be laughing behind our backs at our non-functional government. Continue reading

The President’s Power to Declare War

Because the United States has the most powerful military in the world, the power of the President to declare war makes him the most powerful man in the world. That much power in the hands of a single man can make for dangerous situations. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. It makes it too easy for the US to become a bully country. Continue reading

The War on Drugs – Another Losing Battle

The war or prohibition on drugs has been raging since the early 1900’s but was not seriously addressed by the federal government until the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act of 1970 was implemented by the Nixon administration.  During … Continue reading

US Sanctions, A Failing Foreign Policy

Mahatma Gandhi is one of my overall favorite people.  He believed that if you approached your adversary, whether an opponent or enemy, rationally and without threat or malice you will eventually gain a better and more engaging and desirable response. … Continue reading

The Right to Bear Arms – Or Not

The 2nd amendment to the Constitution states:  “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.“ In 2008 and 2010, the Supreme … Continue reading
