Are Science and Religion Really in Opposition?

I recently came across an excerpt from a quote by Sir William Bragg, 1915 Nobel Prize laureate for Physics, in a Facebook post which I am stating in its entirety: From religion comes a man’s purpose; from science, his power to achieve it.
