Jobs, Housing, and Carless Urban Villages
Traffic is becoming a more prominent topic in many areas as a result of growth… Prior to the car towns were compact and centralized with a business and retail core surrounded by streets of houses. That core also had some amount of housing above the stores, what we now call mixed-use… City planners have returned to the fundamentals of how we did it before the advent of the affordable car and putting a modern spin on it… So planners came up with the idea of smaller walkable communities called Urban Villages. Donald Trump: My Greatest Fears and hopes
I voted enthusiastically for Bernie Sanders in the Primary and ended up reluctantly voting for Hillary Clinton in the General election. But we got now President Donald Trump, not my choice at all for president. I have no choice but to accept the election results very unenthusiastically and apprehensively. What I fear most is Vice President Mike Pence who is a conservative ideologue somehow becoming president. Another Mass Shooting this time at a college in Oregon
President Obama gave his 15th news conference on mass shootings since taking office on the recent mass shooting at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon. 10 lives including the shooter were taken and 7 were wounded. I don’t necessarily blame the shooter who was in all likelihood mentally deranged. I blame our legal and legislative systems as well as our often warped sense of civilized social values for allowing him and other killers such easily access to guns. The gunman reportedly owned 13 legally obtained guns plus plenty of ammunition. Had people not had such easy access to guns many of these tragic mass and daily shootings would not have occurred and more would still be alive today. Continue reading
